Try starting out with family and friends, than see if they know anyone who would like a landscaper as well. Make business cards and pass them around as much as you can. or see if you can post them at local businesses. Post on Craigslist. or look on craigslist under Gigs/Labor. People will post there when they want work done. You could also make flyers or those door hanger thingys. Knock on some doors and let people know your a local landscaper and if they are in need of any landscaping work. The worse they can say is No. and if they are not home than drop off a flyer at the door. Remember to do quality work and people will recommend you to friends and family. Word of mouth is the best advertising

when bidding on property think about how long it will take you to cut the grass, do the trimming etc. 1/2hour an hour? is it just you or do you have employees to pay and other business expenses? is the travel far?. think of how much gas you will waste getting there. Average size yard is about $40 a cut. Your just starting out so you can go a little lower to grab accounts. but don't gip yourself. You don't want to work for free
