maybe tell us where you live as that will affect what legislation applies
I work in childcare supporting an area of pre-school providers
Contact your local council first and they will tell you the required legislation, qualifications etc
and the necessary backgrounds checks for staff etc

Can't really say anymore without more details from yourselves
References :
In the UK you need to register with the local authority and I believe one of you should be a qualified Nursery Nurse. F.E. colleges run these courses.
References :
suggest you call Dearness Gardens.... if they don't carry it, it won't do well in Charlotte area.... note that the cold hurts them as does high humidity?.... Dearness is the garden center that I use and they never have steered me wrong about a plant... knowledgeable folks there!!....of course, if you want to try anyhoo, they'll order it for you.....

online, there's only one place I'd suggest, since they grow the plants and that means the plants would like living here... that's PlantDelights, in Raleigh....

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft%3Aen-us&q=plant+delights&aq=0&aqi=g2&aql=&oq=Plant+Delight

they have these...

http://www.plantdelights.com/cgi-bin/simplesearch.pl''

with Plant Delights, you may pay a little more, but the plants will be happy, healthy, well packed and a good size.... we've always been pleased with them... and going to their Open House is a blast!!....note, also that in their area, they seem a bit warmer than us in Charlotte and less humid.... but they'll tell you the best way to grow the trees if you ask....

Go with what the "dude" said but poke a lot of holes in the ground before you plant -screwdriver works...aerates dirt. There are tools to do this but if it is a small patch - this'll work.
References :
just add some topsoil and triple 10 fertalizer and water. you can put straw over the seed this will help with birds, and also prevent wash outs from rain.
